two day work week
Our visit to MD/VA was quite enjoyable. The wedding was good fun and it was also great to be with Matt and Kristen and see their new home. Rumors of Kris’ pregnancy have been confirmed which is just thrilling. They’ll be the first of our non-family friends to have a kid. We chose to avoid DC and so didn’t get in to Ben’s, but we did manage to do some good eating anyway. Matt gave my sausage the royal treatment, as he is wont to do…and we did some other good grilling. The highlight must be John’s fried chicken. The chicken is brined overnight and then soaked in buttermilk. What’s that you say? Certainly good steps to follow before frying chicken, but nothing new really? Well tell me how this pair of dungarees fits you: once the LARD is heated up, he slices up about a pound of COUNTRY HAM and renders that in the lard until it’s all crispy like bacon. Remove the ham and add some BUTTER. You are now ready to fry your freaking chicken. Can you say oganoleptical bliss? I knew that you could. The four of us ate 14 pieces of chicken, to say nothing of the wine and the biscuits and a sort of maque choux but with okra in place of the peppers. Are you getting a hint of what I was talking about last week?

Matt has an XBOX and we played TopSpin a few times. I really liked it and hope that Matt can come over some time so we can play again.

I caught another fishy last night. Moved up from the “tiny” striper category to the “middling” variety. Just under 2 feet long and 3-4 pounds. Good fun.

When we got home on Wednesday I realized that I had screwed up the VCR and hadn’t taped the Revs game. In hindsight I should have taken this as a sign and let sleeping crappy soccer games lie. But instead, with some careful help from Maureen so that I could avoid seeing the score, I managed to watch the game on the computer…and see the Revs submit a steaming pile of doo-doo in place of a soccer game. They tied a very bad team 0-0 at home. The US v. England match was a bit better, with the US losing 2-1. Over 90 minutes the Yanks held their own but their finishing was dismal, except for our boy Dempsey who had the lone goal (sadly not off a Ralston cross). Reen and I will be back at Gillette tomorrow night to see the Revs host KC, which means that we’ll have to tape the world cup qualifier. A win over Costa Rica would put the boys in great shape to qualify for Germany 2006.

Sounds like a great time!

I think I gained a few pounds just reading this post.

Perhaps a disclaimer of sorts would be warranted in the future...
